BLOG 1

What is happening in this article?

The article is about a young lady named Ms Sierra who has been terribly abused online receiving death threats for her blogs posted on her site. The series of death threats had caused her to be forced to cancel a public appearance and to suspend her blog. Police are investigating who or which group of people are doing this. Ms Sierra also believes the fight against her is more likely to be because she is a woman in the male-dominated technology world. Many people have supported her by suspending there blogs and others discussing that there is a need for bloggers' code of conduct. Ms Sierra is too afraid to go out and speak in public since the death threats she has received. Also Robert Scole an author of a popular technology blog has helped Ms Sierra by temporarily stop blogging and has turned off functionality that allowed people to post anonymously.

This article can teach us a lesson on how internet abuse can be very dangerous and frightful. As we read that Kathy was to afraid to even walk out of her house because of the abuse she had online and that there is a lot of people who misuse the internet.

What could be done to ensure it does not occur?

To ensure this does not occur the bloggers page should not have many details of the personal information about themselves, family or friend. The Author of the blog websites should not allow anonymous comments. There should be a set of code of conducts for allowing people to blog and those who misuse it to abuse must pay the consequences. When making a blog you should always know there would be a lot of strangers commenting and talking to you if any abuse happens don’t let them continue abusing you, report them as soon as possible.

Would you want your potential employer to visit your myspace or facebook account? What impression would they get if they did?

I wouldn’t want my employer to visit my MySpace or FaceBook account because I believe it my personal webpage where I can be whom I want to be and post crazy things with my friends to have a little fun. I don’t want my personal things I share with friends to be seen by my employer because it differs when I am with friends I am crazy, love to joke around, but when am wanting to be employed I would be more behaved and civilized to get a job a career I want. I wouldn’t like my social life being mixed up with my career life because there both different. What people do outside of work should remain separate at all times; no employer should monitor or try and restrict this freedom in any way. This includes trying to pick prospective employees through these sites. There are no guarantees that what people say or do on-line is any representation of who they truly are.
I wouldn’t want to have a bad impression in front of my employer. but if my employer were to see my facebook account they wouldn’t understand much since most of the time I post things in my language. His impression of me would be different and he would think of me differently. So in my opinion don’t post things on social websites if it’s going to harm you in the future, in your career life.
